José Vicente NEGLIA holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. An ethnomusicologist by training, he has conducted extensive research in Japan and North America on underground rock and the cultural politics of memory. He has published in academic journals such as the Journal of Popular Music Studies, Popular Music History, and Volume! The French Journal of Popular Music Studies, among others. He is currently pursuing a research project on mindfulness and music. Dr. Neglia was a recipient of the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship from 2011 to 2013 and has been awarded grants from the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong. He has presented at meetings of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music, the International Council for Traditional Music, and the Society of Ethnomusicology.
