The Department of Music has excellent facilities and resources available to students and staff. With the majority of its facilities located within the Run Run Shaw Tower, students have easy access to the Music Library, electroacoustic studio, musical instrument collection, and seminar rooms.
Music students have access to eight practice rooms as well as the Rehearsal Room and Instrument Room. The Rehearsal Room is suitable for large ensemble and choir rehearsals while the medium-sized Instrument Room is suitable for chamber music. These rooms are also used for classes, tutorials, workshops, and informal performances.
Students have access to a wide range of performance venues on campus, including the Grand Hall, Loke Yew Hall, University Museum and Art Gallery, Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre Theatres, Rayson Huang Theatre, Global Lounge, and Sun Yat-sen Place. Whether performing or listening to concerts, these venues offer students both formal and relaxed environments in which to pursue their interest in music.
Access to the latest technology is available in the electroacoustic studio and the various Computer Centre labs located around campus. The HKU Libraries support an extensive database of electronic resources, as well as an excellent interlibrary-loan system. With outstanding facilities and resources at hand, students in the Department of Music have the opportunity to excel in their studies.
