The
Electronic Music Studio comprises sophisticated digital audio/visual
equipment to facilitate faculty and postgraduate research
in electronic music composition, computer music, acoustics,
sound design, interactive performance, and music production.
It comprises a professional soundproof recording studio and
adjacent electronic studio, where the main recording operations,
teaching, and research take place.
The electronic studio houses a Sony DMP-R100
48-track digital mixing console, three 6-foot racks mounted
with a number of 24-bit/96kHz effect processors, pre-amp units,
and finalizers from Drawner, Eventide, Focusrite, Lexicon,
and T.C. Electronic. It also has the latest SACD/DSD equipment,
and a dCS 904E A/D Converter. Digital audio processing is
made possible by a G5 Macintosh computer and a 192-bit Pro
Tools audio system with a number of DSP cards installed. The
computer is linked to more than ten sound modules and synthesizers
of various kinds. Video equipment and time code generators
are also set up for audio-visual synchronization work.
The recording studio can accommodate up to ten
musicians, and has a Yamaha EL-87 Electone, Yamaha DC1IIXG
Disklavier, digital and acoustic drum sets, as well as guitar
and bass amplifiers. More than one thousand minutes of music
have been recorded and produced in the studio to date, some
of which have been published on CDs.
