The Department of Music
has excellent facilities and resources available to staff
and students. With the majority of its facilities located
within the Hung Hing Ying Building,
students have easy to the Music
Library, computer
lab, electronic
music studio, musical instrument
collection, and seminar rooms. Students and staff frequently
interact in the common area of the Hung Hing Ying Building,
where a seating area provides a relaxed environment for the
discussion of projects, research, or musical activities.
Music students have access to practice rooms in an adjacent
building, as well as a large rehearsal room in the Main Building,
where they can participate in orchestral, chamber, or choir
rehearsals. This room also houses the gamelan gong kebyar,
and numerous instruments from various cultures.
Students have access to a wide range of performance venues
on campus, including Loke Yew Hall, University
Museum and Art Gallery, Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre
Theatre, Rayson Huang Theatre, Global
Lounge, and Sun Yat-sen Place. Whether performing or listening
to concerts, these venues offer students both formal and relaxed
environments in which to pursue their interest in music.
Access to the latest technology is available in the electronic
music studio, computer
lab, and the various Computer
Centre labs located around campus. The HKU
Libraries support an extensive database of electronic
resources, as well as an excellent interlibrary-loan
system. With outstanding facilities and resources at hand,
students in the Department of Music have the opportunity to
excel in their studies.
